02. December 2013 - The Tungaloy Corporation has expanded its drilling line with the introduction of the new DrillMeister series of head changeable drills. The innovative new DrillMeister has been developed to provide the productivity of solid carbide drills with the economic and cycle time reductions associated with indexable drills.
The DrillMeister is the result of tireless R&D work by the Tungaloy team that enables the new range to reduce set-up time and maximize machine up-time with a simplistic and secure head clamping system. Specified for the drilling with added possibility of chamfering of alloy steels, low carbon and carbon steels, stainless steel, gray and ductile cast irons as well as aluminium alloys and titanium, the DrillMeister is available in diameters from 10.0 mm to 19.9 mm with hole depths up to L/D = 3 and 5.
The new DrillMeister has a newly developed drill body while the heads have an innovative cutting edge to break the chips into smaller, more compact swarf. The head geometry also includes margins similar to that of solid carbide drills. This feature improves the hole accuracy beyond conventional indexable drills.
The reduced machining times can be derived from an exclusively designed chamfering adaptor that slides on the drill body and allows drilling and chamfering in one process, thereby slashing productivity times. The chamfering adaptors are available with 30, 45 and 60 degree inserts to provide flexibility for the drill and chamfer length with adjustments available according to the workpiece requirements.
With regard to the chamfering adaptors, the Tungaloy system has two inserts rigidly secured with screws to allow stable and precise drilling and chamfering to reduce the cycle times. The adjustable chamfering connections are capable of accommodating all three of the chamfer angle inserts to reduce tool inventory and costs. The chamfering adaptors are freely adjustable by altering the clamping screw. The combination of the drill and chamfer adaptor have been created predominantly for pre-threading operations.
