MillLine: “DoFeed” Extended to Meet Diverse Demands of the Market

September 2013 - The popularity of the DoFeed Series of super high feed milling cutters from the Tungaloy Corporation has soared since its initial launch with market interest and customer feedback being extremely positive. As an innovative cutting tool manufacturer that pays close attention to the needs of its customer base, Tungaloy has now extended the DoFeed Series to offer a range of larger diameters for the machining of large parts with a larger surface area.

The expansion sees the standard DoFeed line now presented in 100, 125, 160 and 200 mm diameters with metric dimensions and 4, 5, and 6 inch diameters with imperial dimensions. Designed for high feed rough milling operations on steel, stainless steels, cast irons, hardened steels and superalloys, the DoFeed expansion now gives end users a complete solution for rough machining regardless of industry sector.

The extended DoFeed line now also incorporates a revised cutter body design whereby Tungaloy has widened the chip gullet to further improve swarf removal rates beyond the exceptional rate of its predecessor. The taper on the side of the cutter body prevents chips from accumulating between the component and cutting tool when conducting horizontal milling operations. The wider gullet prevents chip packing and evacuates the waste from the work area with efficiency far beyond that of competitor tools.

As not all customers will have high powered and robust machine tools, so the close pitch DoFeed would be impractical. However, with the enhancements to the cutter design and the new diameter options, customers with low powered or relatively lightweight machine tools can also enjoy the benefits of exceptional productivity with the new DoFeed while minimising vibration, chatter resulting in lower tool life due to this issue.

The above advantages are made possible due to the key feature of inserts for DoFeed Series with the large inclination and rake angle on the cutting edge. This combination drastically reduces the cutting forces to give the performance level of a conventional positive rake insert. Furthermore, the inserts for the DoFeed are available in Tungaloy's AH725, AH3035, AH120 and AH130 grades that have all been applied special surface technology, PremiumTec. This diverse selection of insert grades make the DoFeed ideal for delivering outstanding performance on a wide range of materials for all industry sectors.
