18. October 2013 - For highly productive machining of aluminium alloys and non-ferrous materials, the Tungaloy Corporation has now launched its new Tung-AluMill Series of milling cutters. The new high speed range of milling cutters has been developed primarily for applications such as shoulder milling, high helical ramping and interpolation, straight ramping, and step milling operations.
Capable of increasing productivity by over 30%, the new Tung-AluMill series achieves this with a multitude of new innovations. The cutter body incorporates a new insert pocket with a V-bottom clamping design that works in synergy with the new insert geometries to permits highly productive machining at cutting speeds of up to 5000 m/min and allows higher ramping capabilities. The new V-shaped bottom design of the Tung-AluMill delivers a counter-force against cutting forces and centrifugal force to guarantee that insert movement and vibration is completely eliminated.
The secure pocket design has a simplified screw design for improved insert clamping. With a two-faced radial contact and wide axial support, the Tung-AluMill delivers precision 90 degree milling. The inserts with a polished rake face, fully ground periphery, high relief angle and wiper edge ensure that chip adhesion is eliminated to enhance the remarkable surface finishes.
Targeted at manufacturers that demand exceptional productivity levels and surface finishes while maintaining a high level of accuracy, the Tung-AluMill can be applied to a wide range of industry sectors that include the aerospace, medical, and general machining industries. To offer the benefits of the innovative new Tung-AluMill to as wide an audience as possible, the Tungaloy development team has created a bore and shank type cutter design.
The Tung-AluMill insert range is available in Tungaloy's TH10 grade with the AJ chipbreaker designation. This combination enables the series to machine aluminium alloys, copper alloys, and a wide range of non-ferrous materials. To further enhance the capabilities of the Tung-AluMill, the inserts are available with a selection of 9 sizes of corner radii that includes from 0.4 to 5 mm. This wide selection of corner radius enables the end user to machine at depths of cut up to 16 mm while maintaining exceptional tool life and stock removal levels. Under test conditions, the new Tung-AluMill has been proven to double tool life while offering productivity levels far beyond that of competitor products.
