TurnLine: Tungaloy Expands “EcoTurn” Series for Cost Reduction in Stainless Steel Turning

22. August 2013 - Since the initial launch of the EcoTurn range of inserts from the Tungaloy Corporation, the company has significantly extended the product line with a number of new additions. The new line of ISO turning inserts reduces the cost for the end user while maintaining a performance levels.
The new additions now include an SS type chipbreaker for finish machining and an SM type for medium cutting applications of stainless steel with CNMG, DNMG, TNMG and WNMG designations. For the high performance turning of stainless steel, the EcoTurn has been extended to include the PVD coated AH630 grade that is the first recommendation for general stainless steel turning. For more robust applications, the AH645 grade has been offered to improve performance when conducting heavy interrupted machining of stainless steel. With regard to CVD coated grades, the T6100 series is offered with the T6120 grade to provide outstanding wear resistance and exceptional cutting performance when continuous cutting. To complement this grade, the new T6130 is advised for high wear resistance turning processes. All the new additions to the EcoTurn line incorporate Tungaloy’s PremiumTec, special surface technology. This new technology provides improved adhesion resistance with its smooth insert surface, which improves chip flow away from the work envelope. This smooth surface also reduces chipping resistance and improves fracture resistance with its remarkable toughness.
To accommodate the new EcoTurn range of inserts, Tungaloy has expanded a series of P-type toolholders that has high versatility. The expanded toolholders are available for right or left hand cutting in metric and imperial dimensions and combining with the insert types. The EcoTurn range is suitable for turning, facing and profiling processes.
