June 2013 - To improve productivity and reduce tooling inventory when machining steel and stainless steel, the Tungaloy Corporation has now launched its new EasyCut series of grooving and parting off tools to complement its extensive grooving line. The exciting new addition to the Tungaloy grooving line covers all external, internal, face grooving and parting off operations.
Taking innovation to the next level, the EasyCut incorporates a unique toolholder design that does not have an upper jaw for clamping the insert. The benefit of this system is that chip evacuation is drastically improved and chip packing from deep grooving is eliminated. The new insert and toolholder design promotes rapid tool changeovers while enhancing the insert clamping to eliminate vibration and improve tool life.
Primarily aimed at the general machining sector, the new EasyCut is available with insert widths of 4, 5 and 6 mm and toolholders that enable it to conduct external grooving and traversing, parting-off, internal grooving and traversing as well as face grooving and traversing. With such an extensive range of capabilities, the EasyCut can significantly cut the required tooling inventory and associated costs for end users.
The insert 'plug-in' design secures the insert in the toolholder pocket from 360 degrees to overcome lateral forces, unlike competitor systems. This enables the EasyCut to comfortably conduct traversing processes as well as grooving and parting operations. Utilising elastic recovery, no screws are required to clamp the inserts and this dramatically reduces tool changeover times.
To deliver performance that matches the efficiency of the toolholders, Tungaloy has introduced its ETX inserts for grooving and traversing. The ETX incorporates special protrusions in innovative chipbreakers that make the ETX the ideal choice for traversing with a small depth of cut. This exceptional insert design enables the ETX to be used for parting, facing, external and internal grooving and traversing.
The new insert geometries are available in Tungaloy's renowned AH725 PVD coated carbide grade. This grade delivers excellent wear resistance and extended tool life with its new (Ti,Al)N layer that is added with Tungaloy's new residual stress control technology to enhance hardness and adhesion of the coated layer.
