TurnLine:Tungaloy Expands Mini T-CBN Line with “BX470” Grade for Sintered Metal Machining

 10. May 2013 - The extremely successful TurnLine range of Mini T-CBN inserts from the Tungaloy Corporation has now been extended to incorporate a BX470 insert grade. The interest levels in the Mini T-CBN line that is capable of boring diameters as small as 4.5 mm with indexable inserts has been astounding since the initial product launch.

The BX470 grade designation has been added to the Mini T-CBN line for the effective machining of sintered metals. Produced from a micro-grain cBN, the new BX470 delivers the highest hardness levels of all Tungaloy T-CBN grades to date. When compared to competitor grades, the BX470 delivers prolonged tool life and performance with reduced corner wear.

As a market leading innovator that pays close attention to the demands of its customer base, the new BX470 addition to the Mini T-CBN line for boring and internal turning tools has been created to improve tool life, surface finishes and productivity for sintered metal components in the general machining and automotive industry sectors. Compatible with Tungaloy's renowned ‘StreamJetBar Mini’ boring bars, the new BX470 has been proven to reduce tooling costs by over 60% while reducing tool change times by an additional 50%. The ability to reduce changeover times is a major advantage over brazed CBN tools that require re-grinding. Historically, indexable insert tooling has not been available for such small diameter ranges. However, the arrival of the Mini T-CBN line and the new BX470 grade delivers a multitude of benefits over previous tooling philosophies.

To enhance the exceptional surface finishes and accuracy of the BX470 insert grade, the new range of inserts works in harmony with Tungaloy's established ‘StreamJetBar Mini’ line. The boring bars are available with a steel or carbide shank and right or left hand designations. The boring bars with through coolant facility are available for a vast array of insert designations and geometries. However, the combination of a solid carbide through coolant boring bar and the extremely sharp cutting edges of the BX470 grade will deliver unparalleled benefits for the end user.
