25. June 2014, Tungaloy is pleased to announce the expansion of its EcoTurn turning line. As manufacturing technology advances, machining practices have changed. Today’s parts are becoming more “near net,” meaning the amount of material to be removed has been dramatically reduced. Research has revealed that 75% of all turning applications are accomplished using a depth of cut (DOC) of 3 mm or less. However, the most common turning inserts are capable of a depth of cut of 6 mm. This seems wasteful. The EcoTurn line has reduced the size of the insert, while maintaining the insert thickness and the same chipbreaker geometry. The smaller insert has the same performance of the larger insert. Reducing the size of the insert is a great first step in cost reduction, especially with today’s workpiece materials requiring a large variety of grade and chipbreaker options. This is why Tungaloy has expanded its offering to address most market needs.
The new ZF chipbreaker is used in finishing applications and has an operating range of 0.2 to 1.5 mm DOC. The feed rate ranges from 0.07 to 0.2 mm per revolution.
The new ZM chipbreaker is used for medium cutting and has an operating range of 0.7 to 2.0 mm DOC, making this chipbreaker an excellent option when profiling.
Both of these new chipbreakers are offered in the versatile T9115 and T9125 CVD PremiumTec coated grades.
The addition of the ZF and ZM chipbreaker geometeries compliments the poular TSF and TM chipbreakers, making the family capable of machining from 0.2 to 3.0 mm DOC with feed rates from 0.08 to 0.5 mm feed per revolution.
When turning stainless steels and exotics, the EcoTurn line is available with the SS chipbreaker for finishing and the SM chipbreaker for medium cutting. These inserts are available in PVD PremiumTec coated AH630 and AH645 grades and CVD PremiumTec coated T6120 and T6130.
The EcoTurn line now offers six chipbreaker options and eight different grade options, including coated and uncoated cermets. These options make EcoTurn one of the most verstile, ecomomical turning lines available today.
